The Vagrants are always on the road and their journey is always fun, with great music, and electricity in the air. You can feel it in their music.
The Vagrants chose their name from a life on the road and it gives their music its diversity, raw energy, edge and sweet tones. The Vagrants have been gigging for years doing over 400 gigs. The Vagrants music is rock at its finest, and is compared to ACDC, Pink, Ben Harper, Evanescence, Black Crows, Janis Joplin. The Vagrants have recently been signed to a world wide deal with Warner Chappel, after a blistering showcase at Popkomm in Berlin. The Vagrants front woman Renate Ludwig has amazed audiences at hundreds of festivals, international fundraisers, and world-class clubs and venues in Australia, US, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic with her ballsy voice and intense stage presence.
Renate Ludwig is the voice that is ringing in your ears as you leave a Vagrants gig! An electrifying front person there is no doubt that you will be entertained. The biggest thing about Renate is her voice, her frame is tiny and many wonder where the power is coming from. Also playing keys, flute and sax Renate gives The Vagrants their colour.
Steve Iorio Growing up in New York in with no mother has certainly given Steve an edge to the way life can change. Steve is the lead guitarist and main songwriter for The Vagrants. Hiss fluency in German, Danish and Spanish make life a little more interesting on the road and help us all in those awkeward moments. His years of diverse experience and influences have helped to mold the unique sound of the band. Playing acoustic, and electric guitars, keys, harp and doing harmonies and lead vocals keeps him busy.
Andy Gardiner is by far the most colourful ... from his arty tattoos to his stage antics.Andy keeps the Rhythm section pumping with his intense energy and skill on the bass. Having been in some wild bands back in Melbourne, he is a sought out sessionmuso when not touring, Andy's diversity in his playing styles fits right in with the Vagrants eclectic range of songs. You'll know Andy as soon as you get to one of our gigs ..
Bobby Bee or fondly known by us as Robbo is the latest addition to the Vagrants family. Hailing from New York he is bringing "attitude" and an intense drumming style that will keep everyone on their toes grooving. He is braving life on the road with us for our 2009 tour. Robbo has had an extensive drumming career in New York and is joining us for some crazy times and wonderful music
Vagrants who join us along the way either in Australia or on the road
James Spiteri is the throbbing rhythm of The Vagrants. He is the big engine of the locomotive train that burns into your chest to get people fired up. At 25 James has completed a music business degree and has been playing with the Vagrants from the beginning. The Vagrants world tour of 2008 has definitely given James the traveling bug and some funny material for some great new songs on the Vagrants next CD. James has been with the Vagrants now for 5 years and due to family commitments can't be around all the time so sometimes you'll see sometimes you won't
Liam Martin is the rock master for us in Australia keeping us on our toes and the punters going crazy. Always ready with a cheeky grin to throw a stick at you while he is going crazy in the back keeping us all rockin out
Mark Gardiner has recently taken a group of horn players under his wing and his organising a wicked horn section. We have had the pleasure of having these guys do a few gigs with us recently. Much fun
